Jonathan Hopson is thrilled to announce representation of Houston artist Julie DeVries.
Jonathan Hopson is seeking to build a diverse roster of artists as we head into our fourth year. This past summer we worked closely with an artist we are very enthusiastic about. We are so excited to announce representation of Houston's own Julie DeVries. She joins the gallery program as we feature her first solo exhibition of paintings. We look forward to working together with Julie to advance her practice and support her in what promises to be a bright future.
"I first saw Julie's work on Instagram in May 2017. Debra forwarded me an image Julie had just posted of a new painting from her studio - I loved what I saw and reached out for a studio visit. I was not at all prepared for what I found! She was so incredibly prolific," remarked Director, Jonathan Hopson. "In addition to her (then) current series of Ikebana still life paintings, she had at least 4 or 5 shows worth of beautiful paintings waiting in the wings. I knew from that first visit that we would be working together for many exhibitions to come."
About the artist:
Julie DeVries was born in Houston, Texas, in 1980. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received her BFA in painting and Latin American Art History in 2003. For the 2002-2003 academic year she traveled to Argentina through the Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University (IFSA-Butler). On her return to Houston in 2004, she joined the MFA program at the University of Houston, graduating in 2007 in painting and drawing.
